What is Side-by-Side Carpet Blending?
Side-by-side carpet blending is a side match correction technique that addresses color or shade variation between joined carpet panels. Technicians use dyes equivalent to the original mill dyes to blend the lighter side of a seam into the darker, and correct texture side match through dyeing or tip shearing, producing a single, uniform surface.
Side match has several causes. Light and shadow across a widely gapped seam or untrimmed high tufts can make one side read darker. Installation error can rotate a panel 90 or 180 degrees so the pile direction no longer matches its neighbor. Manufacturing variation between dye lots produces the same effect. All of them are correctable.
Carpet Dyeing Doctor has resolved thousands of side match and color variance claims and works directly with carpet manufacturers on correction. Our flooring inspectors examine both color and texture side match closely before recommending an approach: dye correction, tip shearing, or both.
